Mahlon Chinn MD joined the practice in 1979 and Douglas Chinn MD joined in 1983. We therefore have long term follow up data on most of our patients. Dr. Mahlon Chinn Welcome to our web page. The following is a brief biographical summary to introduce myself to you. I am a native Californian, and a longtime resident of Southern California. I grew up in and attended the public schools in Arcadia, and I have practiced general adult urology in Arcadia since finishing my residency training in 1978. My undergraduate and medical school education was completed at the University of Southern California, and I continued my training at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center, completing a rotating internship, and then a four year urology residency. I am board certified in Urology, and have been in continuous private practice since 1978. Over the past quarter century I have seen many changes in the medical profession in general, and more specifically in the field of urology. The technological advances and information age has increased the complexity of decision making for both patient and doctor. We utilize lasers, cryoablation, microwave, and radio frequency energy for many of our procedures. Fortunately, our patients have access to all the major medical centers in Los Angeles, and we freely utilize the expertise of the extended medical community for our patient’s benefit. Additionally, our practice does not accept HMO contracts. This limits the size of our practice, and allows us to control the decision making process. On a more personal note, I try to balance a busy medical practice with my love of the out of doors. I am an avid fisherman and alpine skier, and find great joy in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I am married and have four adult children, and one lovable black lab. I truly enjoy the privilege of sharing the practice with my brother, and of continuing the practice that was started in 1952by my father, Jimmie (now retired). Dr. Douglas Chinn Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Doug graduated Phi Beta Kappa from USC with a degree in Biological Sciences. He received his medical degree from USC in 1976 and did a surgical rotating internship at LAC-USC Medical Center (LA County Hospital). After a short stint of working as an Emergency Room Physician, Dr. Doug received his urology training at LAC-USC Medical Center. He joined the family urology practice after completing his residency. Dr. Doug was board certified in 1985 and has recertified twice since then. Dr. Doug's early research experience was with venomous reptiles and arthropods with Dr. Findlay Russell. For the last 12 years, Dr. Doug has worked on developing and improving the technology and technique for prostate and renal cryosurgery. He has published (co-author) and presented on this topic. Dr. Doug holds several patents in the field of minimally invasive ablative therapy.
